NEWS:

US Open Championship:
The SJSU Judo Team did well at the US Open Judo Championships held in Duluth, Georgia this past weekend. The team took home two medals-- a silver medal from coach Chuck Jefferson and a bronze from Marti Malloy. Andy Hung and Jon Leonhardt also did well at the tournament, placing 5th in the 81kg and 100+kg categories, respectively. For full tournament results, see the USA Judo website.

Marti Debuts in Worlds:
A big congratulations to Marti Malloy, who placed 9th at the Judo World Championships held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Marti finished the day with an overall 3-2 record in her debut in one of the toughest Judo tournaments in the world. The tournament serves as an important stepping stone for Marti as she prepares for the Beijing Olympics in '08. See the USA Judo website for the full World Championship coverage.

Fall Classic Results:
The San Jose State University Judo Team fought hard at the Fall Classic championship held in Coral Springs, FL this past weekend. A number of members from the team made it into the final rounds, and the team returned with three medals-- a gold, silver, and bronze, won by Kenny Hashimoto, Tomoyo Yoshinaga, and Janine Nakao, respectively. Our program, under the leadership of the founder and head coach Yosh Uchida, has been a pioneering force in the development of Judo in the United States. The San Jose State Judo team is rich in tradition dating back to the 1940's and the first Olympic Team in 1964.

Over the last 7 decades, San Jose State has become the most successful judo program in the country with 40 National Collegiate judo titles, 8 World medals, 4 World University medals, 3 Olympic medals, 6 US Olympic team coaches and 1 Olympic team manager.

We take great pride in preparing young athletes to become champions on and off the mat. Education is the top priority and all of our student-athletes work to prepare themselves for success in all aspects of life. Our program has attracted people from around the world, creating one of the most diverse places in the United States for judo training.
