San Jose State University Judo05/31/05 - Swain Scholarship Donations total more than $15,000 in First Week The San Jose State University Judo Team Executive Committee is pleased to report that The Mike Swain Scholarship at San Jose State University received more than $15,000 in donations raised by the Orange County Kodokan Judo (OCK) and SJSU Alumni & friends-- many of whom are outside of the judo community. This brings the total funds available for scholarships to more than $65,000. Ted Okada, spokesperson for Orange County Kodokan stated, "The goal at OCK was to raise an additional $5000.00 over the next 5 years. We have beaten that goal by more than 100% during the first week alone. I am amazed at the response and generosity. OCK remains committed to the Mike Swain Scholarship and its goals." Mike Swain also commented, saying "I'm extremely pleased with the support we have received in these first few weeks. I believe this scholarship will be successful because we are able to offer the rare combination of a quality education and elite collegiate judo program. With the financial support of the judo community, the Swain Scholarship will continue helping young athletes for years to come. It's my hope that the American judo community will respond to the challenge of creating more opportunities for our young athletes by contributing to the Swain Scholarship." Donations to The Mike Swain Scholarship at San Jose State University are tax-deductible and 100% of your donation goes to funding the education our young athletes. To make a donation, or to inquire about how you can assist the scholarship, please send email to scholarship@sjsujudo.org or visit the San Jose State University Judo Team website at www.sjsujudo.org. San Jose State University will have a booth at this year's USJF Jr. Nationals in Irvine Ca. We welcome all parents, players and coaches to stop by the booth for more information about SJSU and the judo team. |
