05/15/05 - End of Season Barbecue

The annual end of season barbecue took place at Mr. Uchida's house today. Coaches and team members gathered around the pool in Mr. Uchida's backyard for an easy day of swimming, eating, and relaxing. Food was provided for by Mr. Uchida, and organized by freshman Marti Malloy.

Towards the end of the barbecue, the freshmen and sophomores entertained the guests with two skits. The first was a parody of the gameshow Celebrity Jeopardy, with the host as Joshua Resnick, and various Judo contestants. The second skit was a play on the reality TV show "The Apprentice," with Mr. Uchida in the role of Donald Trump, and the contestants vying for a spot as the Judo team captain.

Following the skits, the coaching staff presented the annual Judo team awards. Kaiti Bartkowski was awarded the "Most Improved" award, Marti Malloy was awarded the "Most Outstanding Competitor" award, and Louis Hung received the "Seishin (Spirit)" award. The "Most Obnoxious Player" award this year went to Davor Vasiljevic, and Matthew Dias was awarded with the "Most Impressive Fall" award. Finally, the "Team Lover" award went to Heidi Bartkowski and Sean Lang, who recently became engaged.

After the awards were presented, coach Keith Nakasone made the surprise annoucement that the coaches had selected sophomore Andrew Hung as the new Judo team captain, to take the place of out going captain Jose Bencosme. Congratulations to Andrew, and to all of the award winners.
